Insights To Effective Data Sharing with Digital Public

Growing volumes of data are pushing digital transformations in every sector. These transformations require not only technical improvements but also new agreements, systems, and operational practices to make data secure, accessible, and re-usable. Effective data sharing is enabled by the people managing the data system, not the servers alone. Digital Public reviewed the data challenges in one area of U.S. fisheries management - highly migratory fish species in the Pacific - and developed two reports to support future data sharing discussions. These reports are written with the specific needs of fisheries in mind, but their tools and broader lessons are relevant to data collaborations and digital transformations in many sectors.

Fisheries Information Management Modernization Workshop

In September, NOAA Fisheries released a roadmap to upgrading and improving data systems across the agency. The Fisheries Information Management Modernization Report (aka the FIMM Report) is the result of years of work and highlights the importance of good data to achieving the agency's science and management goals. The FIMM program also connects NOAA Fisheries to broader digital transformation efforts, like the Federal Data Strategy. As a coalition working for fisheries data modernization, the Net Gains Alliance is pleased to see this progress at NOAA Fisheries and we invite you to view this webinar to learn more about the FIMM Report, what it includes, and how you can stay engaged in the process.
